Athletes who participated were 8th through 11th graders. They included: Ashonah Freeman; Deleah Mines; Deyona Mines; and Isis. Deyona and Deleah ran the 2.5 mile course while Ashonah and Isis ran the 3.1 mile course.

The meet was held at Philadelphia’s Belmont Plateau, a terrain that Coach Melita Johnson calls the toughest cross country course on the East Coast.

“The hills are a challenge but the girls fought through and challenged themselves to the finish. Isis won a ribbon, finishing in 10th place in her age group,” Johnson reports.

Johnson also coaches the Mallery Challengers Track Club in Philadelphia. Her two daughters competed in track and field track. One is an Olympian hurdler Nia Ali, so Camelot’s squad has a big advantage in their training.

On their first event Johnson says, “great day and great job by our students!”
