Denver has become the latest major urban school district to call on Camelot to offer its highly successful Excel Academy accelerated high school model to over-age and under-credited students in the Mile High City.

Denver Public Schools has approved a three-year contract under which Camelot will enroll 225 students in the next school, increasing to 375 students in year two.

Teachers from Denver Public Schools will teach the classes while Camelot manages the school and provides the resource team to instill the “Camelot Culture” of behavioral norms and high achievement expectations.

Camelot Schools CEO Todd Bock calls this a perfect example of a public-private partnership with one of America’s great big-city school districts. “We respect the reputation DPS has built as innovators and happy to be part of their district. Our mission is to help DPS get vulnerable, over-age and under-credited students on track to college or other post-secondary programs.”

Camelot has operated Excel Academies in Philadelphia since 2004 with outstanding grade level advancement and gradation results. More recently, it has added similar programs in Chicago, Camden, NJ, and Lancaster, PA. Camelot also operates transitional (behavioral) schools in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Florida and Texas and therapeutic day schools in Illinois.

DPS has not yet selected a location for the new Camelot accelerated high school, though the district is expected to choose an area of the city with a high concentration of vulnerable students.

Camelot and the DPS will collaborate on the recruitment of students.
