Camelot TDS Students Prepare Thanksgiving Dinner for Those in Need
Getting into the holiday spirit, Camelot Therapeutic Day Schools from Belvidere, Bourbonnais, Hoffman Estates, Mount Prospect, Naperville, NWCA, Oak Park, and Quad Cities partnered with The Harbour, a non-profit that provides housing and support services to homeless youth in the suburbs of Chicago, for their annual service project.
TDS students planned a menu, went grocery shopping and cooked an early Thanksgiving dinner for the Harbor shelter and their staff. The preparation and execution of this holiday meal helped students to see how the life skills they learn every day can be used to help those in need. In total, approximately 1,000 Camelot staff members and students participated to make this project a success.
The Harbour prepares the young people they serve for independent living, by placing them in supervised group living and some scattered-site apartments. The transition to adulthood and life on your own can be difficult, and at Camelot we recognize the importance of having support from the entire community. This is why, in addition to a pre-Thanksgiving Day dinner, Camelot provided the young people with gift bags filled with toiletries and other necessary amenities.
Extra food, activities, and gifts from the Camelot family were delivered to the shelter on Tuesday, November 24th– just in time for the Thanksgiving holiday.
At our core, helping young people is what Camelot Education is all about. By supporting The Harbour during Thanksgiving, Camelot extended supports and services to additional children in the community.
