George Dickerson is a Behavioral Specialist at the Chicago Excel Academy in South Shore. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Phoenix where he is also pursuing a Masters of Arts in Psychology. George is from West Philadelphia where he worked at Camelot in Philadelphia before transferring to the Camelot in Chicago.
What is your role as a Behavioral Specialist at Camelot?
I provide safety for the staff and students when they enter Camelot. I monitor the interactions students have with one another making sure a disturbance does not arise. I assure the students are transitioning to classrooms in an orderly manner, and make sure the classrooms also maintain order.
Where do you find your greatest motivation to be a behavior specialist?
As a Behavioral Specialist here at Camelot my greatest motivation is helping students excel–helping them to understand they can rise from the negative situations they were in into a positive one to learn how to do better in school and in life.
What do you find rewarding at Camelot?
The most rewarding feeling about being here at Camelot is to watch a student graduate. Especially seeing how they were when they first came into the program and seeing their development as they leave.
How has Camelot helped you to become a better educator?
Our practices and norms here at Camelot help to make the students and the staff better by providing a unique way of teaching for us all to follow.
What do you enjoy the most about being at Camelot?
I would have to say the staff. Here at Camelot everyone works like a team. We often connect on different topics concerning the wellness and the responsibilities given to the students and translate that into positive success stories.
