Congratulations to a Camelot Partner, Pedro Rivera!
School District of Lancaster Superintendent Pedro Rivera, a Camelot Education partner and champion, was honored by the White House as a “Latino Educator Champion of Change” in September.
Rivera was one of ten Latino educators around the country recognized for extraordinary work in education. Rivera was specifically applauded for his dedication to urban education, as he leads a school district in which roughly 84 percent of students are economically disadvantaged and 17 percent are English Language Learners.
While speaking on a panel at the White House, Rivera said there is no “silver bullet” to educating disadvantaged student populations, according to an article in Lancaster Newspapers. There are two keys to success that he has found: hard work and building an educational team committed to kids.
Camelot is proud to be part of that team in Lancaster County. When the School District of Lancaster was considering approving a second contract for Camelot Education in the district, Rivera spoke to Camelot’s track record of dramatically raising academic standards, and saving the district more than $3.6 million over the term of the contract.
