Excel Academy South Student is Office Depot’s Student of the Month
Craig Thomas, a student at Camelot’s Excel Academy South, in Philadelphia was recently recognized as Office Depot’s Student of the Month for the School District of Philadelphia. The School District and Office Depot were inspired by Craig’s story and gave him the honor for January 2014. This coveted title also came with a $500 cash prize!
His teacher, Jennifer Weaver, said she nominated Craig because of his academic effort in the classroom.
“He is consistent with all of his classwork and attendance. I have him in first period, and sometimes it can be a struggle for kids to get in on time, but Craig never has that problem. He is always here and always on time.”
After school Craig says he is able to spare a few moments to go home and eat, but then it’s off to work. Ms. Weaver says that based on Craig’s work ethic in school, you would never know that he has to balance so many responsibilities outside of school.
Knowing how much Craig has to manage on a daily basis, from school to work, makes his commitment to academic excellence that much more impressive.
“Beyond that, Craig really does stand out” Ms. Weaver said, “He is able to think outside the box and ask questions and go beyond the basic requirements.”
As if winning $500 wasn’t cool enough, Philadelphia Superintendent Dr. William Hite gave Craig a special shout out from his personal twitter account!
Congratulations Craig! And, thanks to Office Depot for recognizing our exceptional Camelot students.
