Excel Englewood Graduates Hold Anti-Violence March, Mural Unveiling
Students and staff from Excel Academy of Englewood joined with members of the local community to hold a “Graduates over Guns” event on Friday, June 10th, to promote community unity and education over violence that has plagued the greater Englewood/South Side community.
The graduates, dressed in caps and gowns, marched around the school to promote the importance of graduating and non-violence. They also performed and unveiled the school’s 2015-2016 Hope Mural.
Participants in the event included Chicago Police Department, Fathers Families and Healthy Communities, Firefighters Against Street Shootings, Mother’s Against Senseless Killings, SGA Youth and Family Services, CPS SOAR Programs and Chasing 23.
